Dog HealthYour dog is very important to you. In order to keep them safe and healthy you have to understand what could injure them not only physically, but also mentally. You will want to treat your dog with care and safety even while they are going about their normal daily routine. That means you have to protect them with fencing when they are outside or a runner, you have to feed them properly, and of course watch out for dangers they might get into. You will find they tend to eat objects such as bones; balls can be issues when they chew on them, and they may even try to jump from high places. Think of having a dog like a child. A child needs to be protected, just as you need to childproof your home for safety you will need to do so for your dog.

Before you can dog proof your home for puppies or adults, you have to recognize what is and is not safe for them to be around. You will want to take away items that might provide a shocking experience, items they can swallow and choke on, and you want to make sure nothing toxic will be spilled in the house. They can be ill from dish soap, cleaning supplies, insecticides, and even gain wounds from items like nails that can puncture them.

Steps to Take

The first step in any protocol for keeping your dog safe is going to be regular visits to the vet. Your dog should always have a check up at least once a year. If you forgo these visits, you could be putting them in harms way from diseases and disorders you do not really know about. You can also be placing them in harms way when an issue arises. If you are not sure they did not swallow a harmful liquid or object you should always seek a vet. They can determine if anything is wrong or at least tell you what to look for. Vet fees can be enormous, which makes it hard for us to always go, but having the information and assurance is more important to keeping your dog healthy.

Dogs like other animals tend to chew on things. They love their chew toys and other objects that may not be in their toy arena. Since dogs like to chew on a lot of things you should take them to training while they are a puppy. You can teach them the types of things they can chew on and commands to make sure they do not chew on harmful objects. With the strong jaws and teeth they have cords are a very serious danger. You need to make sure all electrical plugs are kept from harms way and out of their sight.

You should never leave a dog alone in a potentially dangerous situation. In other words, you have to learn to anticipate what they will perceive as a toy and what they may just want to eat because of the smell. You have to make sure that nothing is available to them in order to keep them as safe and as healthy as possible.
